(More customer reviews)I ordered a case of these since it seems the Orville Redenbacher's popcorn cakes are discontinued or at least in declining production. These cakes have the same look, texture and taste almost the same as a regular rice (not popcorn)cake. Products like this are dime a dozen and had I known they were almost the same thing as everyone else's rice cakes, I would not have ordered this. What to do when your favorite product cannot be found and seems to not be duplicated by anyone else? Such a simple, delicious idea, don't know why other companies don't make them.

(More customer reviews)When this product first came out(2001-2003?), it was the most delicious popcorn I had ever tasted. It tasted just like real corn right off the cob, hot and in popcorn form. It was so good I bought it by the case and sold it at my gourmet espresso bar, gave it away to family & friends and munched out on it at least 2 nights a week. I stocked up enough to last a couple years. When I ran out in 2003-4?, I couldn't find it anywhere. I called Redenbacher and they said they had discontinued the product. God, I was so bummed out!! Recently I went on line searching around, and there it was! on Amazon. I couldn't believe it! I ordered the $27 case and couldn't wait for it to come. After opening, I ran to the microwave, popped my first bag, opened it and immediately knew something was wrong. The popcorn was bright yellow with butter dripping down the inside of the bag. Since I don't like extra butter popcorn, I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach. The original was a very light butter, smelled like corn and was sweet & fluffy. I put a handful in my mouth and it tasted like super, duper, movie theater butter popcorn. This popcorn tasted NOTHING like the original version of corn on the cob. For those of you that tasted the ORIGINAL (first) receipe, I'm sorry to say that this popcorn is a total disappointment. I was so upset, I took the entire case to our local food bank. I then called Redenbacher (Conagra)and they confirmed with their superiors that the recipe had been changed when they re-introduced the product back into the market this past year. PLEASE, if you loved the original recipe and you know what I'm talking about, write to Conagra Foods and ask them to bring back the original recipe!! The reps at Conagra said customer demand may help bring it back. If you are looking for the corn on the cob from the early 2000's, DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT. It's not worth the cost of the shipping. Just go buy any Orville extra butter popcorn product and it will taste the same as this. I don't understand why company's mess with a good thing. Please join me and voice your opinion to the manufacturer!

(More customer reviews)I have been using nutritional yeast for years, almost every single day, and it not only tastes great but is incredibly nutritious. Our three year old son loves it, and especially likes sprinkling it on pasta--I think he feels empowered, and little does he know that he's literally sprinkling nutrition on his food.
You can sprinkle this on popcorn or other snack foods to impart a cheesy taste, add a tablespoon to smoothies, pasta sauce, bread, or just about any other savory food. If you're looking for a cookbook with recipes that use this, try The New Farm Vegetarian Cookbook. It's a little hipped out, but there's a recipe for nutritional yeast cheese that's pretty amazing. There's also The Ultimate Uncheese Cookbook: Delicious Dairy-Free Cheeses and Classic "Uncheese" Dishes, but I would try the Farm cookbook first.
Lastly, these are large flakes, but Frontier Coop online offers 1 pound bags of Nutritional Yeast "mini flakes" which have a finer consistency and sprinkle well from a container with tiny holes (like the kind used to sprinkle powdered sugar). Frontier's prices are also very reasonable, and they offer organic nutritional yeast as well.

(More customer reviews)I tried these on a whim after hearing about Veggie Booty for a long time. I knew I wasn't ready for VB, but I could certainly try out a new kind of cheese puff. I previously thought that a day without Cheetos was a day wasted, so this was a big change.
These are the best things ever! They taste like real cheese and there's some variation in the intensity of the flavor - every single one doesn't taste exactly the same. They aren't as crunchy as Cheetos and don't turn your fingers orange!
After trying a couple bags purchased at the grocery store, I decided I loved them enough to invest in this 12-pack from Amazon. Okay, so maybe I went a little wild and had a bag (or two) a day until they were gone - don't judge me!
Try these out! Buy a bag at the grocery store and then get the 12-pack. You'll be very happy that you did!

(More customer reviews)In case you couldn't tell from my one-word title, I hate this flavor. It consists of Palm fruit oil and "artificial flavors". I'm not sure what artificial flavors they used, but it looks like a yellow-colored powdery substance similar to the powdered cheese on cheese curls (but nowhere near as good).
I'm going back to Orville Redenbacher's "Light Natural" with "50% less fat". It's 100% natural palm fruit oil, plus some salt. True it's 50 calories more per bag, but that's trivial, and the taste is MUCH better than this artificial stuff.

(More customer reviews)I grew up in the days before microwave ovens, and I recall eating popcorn that was popped in a wire basket over a fireplace, as well as popped in a "hot air" popper and in all kinds of configurations on the stove-top, including the entertaining "Jiffy-Pop" that started off in an aluminum-foil covered pie pan and ended up fluffing up that aluminum-foil higher than a 1960's bee-hive hairdo.
Microwave popcorn has become so adept at using that now-universal kitchen device, I think I'd have a microwave if only for popcorn.
That being said - you can SEE that there are scads of competing brands. Still back before microwaves there were commercials starring Orville Redenbacher, and geeky as that guy seemed, he seemed to know something about popcorn.
NOW we have microwaves and, frankly, Orville's off-spring haven't kept up. "Pop-Secret" just plain pops better - their Popped kernels come out big and fluffy and just about every kernel pops. I empty the bag and the familiar residue of a teaspoon of unpopped kernels just plain isn't there.
THAT would be reason enough to rejoice, but Pop-Secret exceeds my expectations. Back in the days when we popped our own popcorn by time-consuming laborious processes, the key to enjoying the popcorn was what you did AFTER the popping - just before putting the stuff in your mouth. Back in those days mom taught us to melt a bit of butter and sprinkle that with just a touch of salt onto our snowy stacks of popped corn. DEEEEEE-licious.
In the years since some palates have been trained to become used to that greasy, sticky, oily stuff that's served in our nation's movie theatres. Okay if that's all you can get.... BUT - why would you want that at HOME?
Pop-Secret Homestyle must have picked Momma's brain, because it comes out just like Momma's best - big, fluffy popcorn coated with just a touch of salt and Land-o-Lakes butter.
I love popcorn. The Mrs. makes fun of me for how much I love it, but I think the Mrs. and God understand. Pop-Secret Homestyle is not only the BEST doggone popcorn you can get, but stick a bag in your microwave, push the "popcorn" button, and a few minutes later you have a little bag of heaven. Open and enjoy.
One piece of advice from an expert: Before putting the bag in the microwave, flatten out the bag - as much as possible flatten out the little kernels - separating them from one another. This makes for more uniform popping and you get that "no unpopped kernel" experience.

I had burned kernels my first few times but discovered a tip from a competing brand.
Microwave a couple cups of water in your microwave right before you do the popcorn.
Our mw is an 1100 watt unit and I use 90% power for 2:05...comes out perfectly nearly all the time
Don't leave the water in when you pop the bag of corn.

Bearitos seems bland, but that's the whole point of this product. to achieve the best fully popped natural corn without the flavorings, oils, and salt of everything else on the market.
If you are looking for something toned down from the fully flavored over salted stuff you buy in the supermarket, then Orville's is great. But if you want a true minimalist diet popcorn;
this is it. Bearitos also pops up fuller, softer and larger per kernel than Orville's does, making for an excellent filling snack when you are looking for a great 100 calorie indulgence.

(More customer reviews)I used to eat another brand similar to this natural flavor, but it disappeared from shelves, so I tried the O.R. brand and liked it better. Now I'll need to order it from amazon because this has also been disappearing from my grocery store. I cannot understand everyone's fascination with the chemicals that go into 'butter flavor' microwave popcorn! This has just oil and salt, and I've found that pouring it into a large bowl reduces the saltiness that others have mentioned here. Keeping it in the bag to eat from seems to keep that salty flavor more concentrated. But I don't think it's really that salty anyway. Obviously this is quite the matter of taste.

it contains Palm oil, not Soybean oil, and the
ingredients are not all "natural"; it contains an
organic Tocopherol preservative. Palm oil does
give this popcorn a light buttery high note, but
with triple the Salt and fat-calories compared to
Lightly Salted Bearitos, dieters should avoid this.
However it is a great alternative to full flavored
salty microwave popcorn from most groceries.
