(More customer reviews)My husband loves the Movie Theater Buttery Popcorn, but it's hard to find in our area anymore....guess it doesn't sell well due to the calorie content! I did find it on Amazon, but only in large quantities which isn't what we need. I found this topping on Amazon, and because of the reviews I decided to buy it for him to try. He loves it! It smells great, no rancid smell, and he says it's just as good as the stuff that is packaged with the popcorn; may be the same stuff altogether. It's less expensive to buy this bottle and the regular boxed popcorn, than to purchase the larger quantities of the Movie Theater Buttery Popcorn.

Also had the same issue as other reviewer...bag split open inside the cardboard box. Popcorn was spilling out of the box as the UPS man brought it in. Amazon refunded me for it. If someone at Whirley-Pop is reading this....thicker bags please!
I do plan to purchase more when this runs out.

(More customer reviews)Purchased a 6oz home popcorn machine for the theater room and the hunt was on for a pre-packaged popcorn that would provide that "movie theater" taste. The first popcorn we tried was Country Harvest and the family enjoyed that popcorn and we went through the 36-packages in relatively short order. When it came time to order another box of pre-packaged corn, I went with Gold Medal's MegaPop based on the recommendation from a friend. Gold Medal also makes a very nice, heavy-duty commercial use popcorn machine, and figured they would have a good tasting popcorn.
The popcorn pre-packaged has two compartments; 1) oil; and 2) popcorn mixed with salt.
Well, made the first batch of Mega Pop and my daughter was all excited when she tasted the popcorn, screaming it tastes just like the movie theater!! Couldn't agree more!! The taste was GREAT!!! The majority of the popcorn popped no problem, with very few old maids. If you want to control the amount of salt and want your popcorn to have a little less salty taste, (which is what I like) just shake the bag and don't use as much of the salt that pools at the bottom of the popcorn. I have a feeling that this box isn't going to last long!!
Now, my daughter has a sleep-over scheduled with six of her friends and wants me to make lots of this specific popcorn for her friends.

Paragon Coconut Popcorn Popping Oil (Gallon) Review

(More customer reviews)I have identified 3 critical parts to the movie theatre popcorn you love. I will break it down for you:
1- Paragon Coconut Popping Oil = Provides the 'nutty/toasted' flavor, the odor that permeates the local cinema, and yellow hue to the popped corn
2- Flavacol = The pseudo-buttery flavor and ultra-fine salt of good cinema popcorn.
3- *Butter-flavored topping = that goo you get when you ask for "extra 'butter' " at the concessions counter.
I hesitated buying this at first ... thinking "$15 ... is it really worth it?" I procrastinated buying Flavacol because it seemed silly that shipping cost more than the product itself. Well, now after 1.5 years I still haven't used up either product and spent less than $30 total for popcorn that is absolutely incredible.
*IMPORTANT* - I read a review that stated the purchaser was dissatisfied because it wasn't 100% Coconut oil. The label on the back says "76 (degree symbol)" coconut oil plus beta carotene NOT "76% Coconut oil" . It's 100% Coconut Oil mixed with beta carotene (for yellow color). The "76 (degree symbol)" refers to the melting temperature of the coconut oil. [I had it sitting on the counter when it was 80 degrees indoors and it started to melt ... later that same evening when the A/C brought the house to 74 degrees for a couple of hours ... it began solidifying again. Neat.]
This popcorn oil is a solid at room temperature* (less than 76F) and provides NO butter flavor. It does not require refrigeration once opened. It DOES provide the 'missing ingredient' between cinema popcorn an your homemade popcorn. Been using some form of vegetable-oil haven't you? It JUST doesn't taste correct, right? Add about a heaping spoonful of this 'popping oil' (solid, remember) to a batch of stove-top popcorn and you're done. (I have tried 'gourmet' popcorns, white popcorn, etc ... but have found that plane-jane barebones no-frills yellow popcorn from your local store actually tastes best.)
If you want 100% theatre-like popcorn ... you'll have to substitute #3> above with the 'butter-flavored topping' of your choice. But, to be honest, that goo kind of turns my stomach. The butter does soften the popcorn slightly (there's a little water in the butter after all) but it's still awesome.
I prepare my popcorn using a stovetop hand-crank popcorn popper, add a heaping spoonful of the 'oil' (remember, solid at room temperature) and 3/4 tsp of flavacol. Top with 3 tbs of butter melted in the microwave and you're done. Bliss. Heaven. It's soooooooo good.

Popcorn Salt Review

(More customer reviews)I love this salt and use it on my french fries as well as on popcorn. It is not as good as fleur de sel or some of the other "gourmet" salts, but it is only 15 cents per ounce, not 15 dollars. Note that this salt is flaked, unlike the normal crystals for which Diamond Salt is known. It absolutely CLINGS to the surface of the popcorn, fries, and other similarly-textured foods MUCH better. It has a cleaner taste than some of the brown or grey sea salts and CLEAN is always good in my book.
As a treat, I sometimes Iick the tip of my index finger, sprinkle a little of this on it, and then pretend like I'm getting ready to do a mini tequilla shooter, but without the lime. Almost like a couple of hours on the beach.
I can only give it four stars instead of five because it is NOT IODIZED and you could end up looking just like a frog with big goiter things on your neck if you don't get enough iodine. This is not a problem for people who eat a lot of seafood, but if you live in the Midwest far from the ocean it could cause some difficulties.

(More customer reviews)As a lover of popcorn, over the course of my half century on this planet, I've pretty much run the gamut on the variety of ways to eat this delight -- over the stove, the air popper and then by nuking it. All were fads that faded over time. Then, through the greatness of Amazon, I found the Whirley popper, and ordered their popcorn to go along with it. It was great, albeit a bit expensive. Then I discovered Great Northern's Great American popcorn.
Not only was the Great American popcorn cheaper in price, but by comparison, the six-ounce package I ordered was larger than the similarly-packaged Whirley Pop at 5.5 ounces. The taste was probably about the same, although psychologically it tasted better to me because of the better value.
I probably went a little overboard, but thanks to the special 99-cent shipping at the time, I purchased three 24-count cases.
Each of these packages produces a whole lotta popcorn, which if not eaten right away, is still really good a week to 10 days later.
Just a great value for middle aged people who could use a little great-tasting ruffage in their systems!
Gotta go; feel another batch coming on!!!

(More customer reviews)spinning mechanism gets hung up every time it is used, usually getting stuck halfway through trying to make a batch. the spinners would get stuck on the edges of the pan. i guess they would change shape when they heat up. tried bending them a few times to give them more clearance, but you can only bend them so far and still have them function properly.
the gears are plastic and not durable at all. the gears got chewed up each time the spinners would get stuck.
had this for three months and it is already trash.

The bowl is cheaply made, and there is no recipe book that comes with this packet. The popcorn looks like I got it out of the bargain isle at the 25 cent store. I ordered the item during the third week of November. It took four weeks to arrive. When I called to inquire about the item, I was told "oh well, we don't carry that in our warehouse we had to order it from somewhere else, you may or may not get the product in time for Christmas, not our problem. My manger will call you back in 48 hours...maybe."
I highly rely on reviews for buying products. Please please take my advice. Don't order this, and don't order from this company. You WILL be unhappy.

Looked at...
Movie style cookers -- you have to store this big thing. I prefer to keep my popper in the kitchen, not the garage. Also, they're too messy and hard to clean not to mention the high cost
Air Poppers -- not the same taste as real p-corn, kind of dry and "cardboardish"
Settled on the Whirley pop for $20 something bucks but then decided to upgrade to the "Ultimate" kit and I couldn't be happier. So easy to use, quick as the microwave, tastes 10x better than microwave or air popper, easy to clean, cheap to own. Not much else to say other than go buy one of these! We eat p-corn at least 3xs a week so we've kinda become p-corn snobs and this is the best we've had. Happy popping! Also, I called Wabash Farms customer service for advice on the best oil...they were incredibly knowledgable and super friendly == Great product, great manufacturer. Get it. I also bought Norpro Scoop Stainless Steel, 35MM (1 Tablespoon) as a scooper so we can use the cocunut oil. Do yourself a favor and get some extra coconut oil...you'll never want to use anything else again!

(More customer reviews)I opted for this aluminum popper instead of the stainless steel. Lesson learned. It does pop almost all of the corn. It's kind of fun to use. Guests and kids think it's cool. The popcorn it makes sure does taste good. Fits in the dishwasher.
The lid fits properly for about the first week, then never again. Occasionally I have to fiddle with the gears to get it going again. The thin aluminum pan has become warped and no longer heats evenly.
You get what you pay for.
